About this deal

This mouthwash has the ADA Seal of Acceptance to stand behind its effectiveness and safety. Because it contains alcohol, it does burn slightly, and the Freshburst minty flavor is on the stronger side. But the alcohol and bright mint are also great for freshening breath, allowing this mouthwash to do double duty. This can lead to gas, bloating and diarrhea. However, your body seems to adjust very well to xylitol.

Xylitol is mostly safe, especially if taken in amounts found in food. The FDA has approved xylitol as a food additive or sweetener.

When should you use it?

When you consume food and drinks that are high in sugar, acids accumulate in the mouth and cause the plaque pH to drop below 5.5. The acidic environment reduces the saturation of phosphate and hydroxyl ions in the mouth and dissolves tooth minerals. Xylitol-containing chewing gum increases the production of saliva, which helps with remineralization. ORL is manufactured in the USA in a state-of-the-art facility that is ISO compliant, USDA organic certified, Kosher certified, and FDA registered. Brown and white sugar have a medium glycemic index ranging from 60 to 65. Xylitol has a low glycemic index of 12. 2This means that, compared to sugar, the body takes longer to metabolize xylitol.

Many chewing gums available in the grocery stores contain a little xylitol, but also contain sorbitol, Sucralose, aspartame, Ace K or mannitol. Artificial sweeteners added to chewing gum reduce the benefits of xylitol. To achieve results similar to those reported in the research, the only sweetener used should be xylitol. Besides chewing gum, there are many other proven delivery systems available: candy, mints, toothpaste, mouth rinse, dry mouth spray and oral gel. How does xylitol work? Since oral bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus need an acidic environment to thrive, the non-acidic nature of xylitol prevents their growth (along with plaque formation). 6 Mouth rinses are widely used as an adjunct to maintain oral hygiene. It is important for these products to be effective and safe for regular use in children. Mouth rinses are recommended only for those who have the ability to swish and expectorate without swallowing. Most mouth rinses contain alcohol as one of their ingredients and they are also available “over the counter.” Alcohol-free preparations should be recommended over those containing alcohol.[ 3] The major side effects of alcohol containing mouth rinses include the presence of oral pain, burning sensation, difficulty of use in patients with oral sensitivity and the risk of accidental alcohol ingestion in children.[ 10– 12] All-natural ingredients: If you’re looking to stay all-natural, look for Sambucus nigra, Echinacea purpurea, and Hydrocotyle asiatica (aka Centella asiatica), all of which “are plant based and help reduce gingivitis and help gum repair,” Dr. Rahmani says. One of the leading risk factors for tooth decay is an oral bacteria called Streptococcus mutans. This is the bacteria most responsible for plaque. Then the dog’s cells start absorbing glucose from the bloodstream, which can lead to hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, and even death ( 26). When dogs eat xylitol, their bodies mistake it for glucose and start producing large amounts of insulin. Cosmetic mouthwashes control bad breath temporarily and are meant to leave a pleasant taste in your mouth. In other words, when you chew gum with xylitol or use it as a sweetener, the harmful bacteria in your mouth starve to death ( 12). The other ingredient present is triclosan, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial, having an anti-plaque potential. Triclosan (2,4,4’-trichloro 2’-hydroxydiphenyl ether) is used to increase the ability of mouthwashes to bind to the oral mucosa, and thus be available for longer periods of time. Jenkins et al. compared the magnitude and duration of salivary bacterial count reductions produced by a single rinse of 0.2% triclosan, 1% sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwashes. They found considerable reductions in bacterial counts which remained significant for 3 hours with triclosan and for 7 hours with SLS and chlorhexidine.[ 22] The use of 0.3% triclosan mouth rinse showed significan
