About this deal
Where the original ShimVerb featured only an unusual 5th-up shimmer, the Pro offers a choice of five intervals, which can be combined with octave-up shifting using a small button. If you've yet to experience the majesty of shimmer reverb, let us explain: the 'verb trail is pitch-shifted - usually up an octave - to create an ethereal haze behind your guitar, a little like a synth pad. Check out some demo videos above and below, plus a little something I did with the ShimVerb and my B-bender Telecaster one recent boring Sunday afternoon.
Convenient Controls - Fine-tune your sound with dry, low cut, hi cut, pre-delay, decay, and wet controls, along with the Trail on/off switch for decay adjustments. Putting the Level up to maximum was oddly satisfying, producing a really distant echoing bass, highly reminiscent of a lot of early psychedelia tracks, particularly on bass solos and outros. The shimmer effect adds a fifth to your sound (and not an octave as it is normal with this type of effects - in the end is a matter of taste). Again, to the left will decrease the distance, so you have very much less of an effect, but to the right is a different story.
This is nothing unusual—as widespread as reverb is, nailing a good reverb tone for a bass guitar is a troublesome task.I even own a few of them myself (including an EHX Holy Grail and a gigantic Fender Vintage Reissue 1963 Reverb unit).
However, if you’re looking for a good spring reverb, you’ll probably find that the ShimVerb Pro sounds a bit too digital for your tastes. I have no use for Shimmer, although I'm sure someone else does (If I were a better pedal steel guitarist, I could imagine using it for an ethereal Daniel Lanois effect), but I can see Room and (especially) Spring coming in handy. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Total Control at Your Feet - Equipped with two footswitches, you have the freedom to apply the effects individually or combine them for a truly unique audio experience.
